Piranhas Time Trials
Time Trials are this Saturday!
- Warm up time: 8:00am
- Meet Start: 8:30am
- Meet End: 11:30am
What are Time Trials?
Time Trials is a practice swim meet where swimmers are timed over a set distance under race-like conditions, but without competition. It helps swimmers and coaches assess their progress and performance, build endurance, and get used to the rhythm of a meet before competition. It also provides a seed (starting) time for future races, A meets, and so swimmers can gauge improvement over the course of a season.
What should I do?
First, you should sign your child up for all strokes in which they are legal. If you are not sure, sign them up for everything and the coaches will take care of the rest! You must do this using Swimtopia. Swimmer registration for time trials will CLOSE AT 7:30PM TONIGHT, JUNE 4.
Second, you should VOLUNTEER! This should also be done in Swimtopia. Because this meet is internal only, we will need DOUBLE the number of volunteers - we need at least 30 of you to step up and help everything run smoothly! Don't know what to do? Don't worry, our reps and seasoned swim team veterans are here to help and to show you the ropes. There will be some volunteer training during warmups. Descriptions of roles can be found here: https://poolesvilleswim.swimtopia.com/swim-meet-faqs. You will not miss your child's swim, you can always take a break to cheer them on! 😏
What can I expect at time trials?
- There will be 46 events; each event may have several heats to ensure all kids have a chance to swim.
- Events are defined by Stroke (Individual Medley, Free, Back, Breast and Fly), Age group (8U, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18) and Gender (Boys and Girls). For example, Event #10 is Girls, 9-10, Freestyle. Event #37 is Boys, 15-18, Breaststroke.
- Your children should check in with the coaches when they arrive to be notified of which events they are swimming.
- Kids should stay close to the line up area so they can hear their event number and/or name when it is called.
- The Clerk of Course and their assistant(s) will help to get them lined up at the appropriate time.
- There is a 10 minute "halftime" break between Backstroke and Breaststroke.
- Concessions will be open for time trials! There will be donuts, beverages, and other goodies for sale.
- Once your child is done swimming all of their events and you are done with your volunteer shift, you are free to leave (but it's great if you can stay and cheer on our teammates!)
- If you need to leave before your child has completed all of their events, be sure to let a coach and/or the clerk know so we can mark them off. Please only do this if there is an emergency.
We can't wait to swim with you!
